Widely Used Updates in Latest Version

Appian 23.2 delivers several improvements to help developers build apps and automate workflows faster and easier:

1. AI Skills

Appian has introduced AI Skills, which allow developers to embed AI into their apps using a low-code approach:

  • AI Skills include Document Classification, Email Classification, and Document Extract
  • Developers can build, train, and deploy ML models directly in Appian without needing data scientists or third-party software
  • AI Skills can be used like any other design object

For example, to classify documents:

  1) Create an AI Skill of type "Document Classification"
  2) Add document types (e.g. Invoice, Receipt, etc.)
  3) Upload training documents for each type
  4) Train the model
  5) Test the model using sample documents
  6) Publish the AI Skill
  7) In a process, call the AI Skill action to classify new documents

2. More pages in sites and portals

Appian 23.2 allows up to 10 pages in sites and portals, up from 5 in previous versions:

  • Gives more flexibility to build self-service workflows
  • Dynamic headers adjust to browser size and mobile devices

3. Custom domains for portals

Portals can now be configured with a custom domain name:

  • Allows portals to match existing web addresses
  • Provides a more cohesive user experience

4. Data fabric improvements

The data fabric now allows:

  • Tracking of record events to see who takes action on records and when
  • Codeless record-action security to determine who can access records
